Privacy Policy

The Ferris Privacy Policy was updated on July 6th, 2015.

The changes were made primarily to incorporate new products that Ferris is developing that will be encompassed in this Privacy Policy as well.

Your privacy is important to us and always will be. So we’ve developed a Privacy Policy that covers how we collect, use, and handle your information. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our privacy practices and let us know if you have any questions.

Our Privacy Policy explains how Ferris and its corporate affiliates (“Ferris,” “we” or “us”) collect, use, share, and protect information when you register for and use our websites on which a link to this Privacy Policy is posted (including or our mobile applications in which this Privacy Policy is made available (our “Services”).

In order to provide you with our Services, we may collect certain information from you when you register and interact with our Services. The information we gather falls into two categories: information you actively provide (for instance when you create a Ferris account), and information we collect through your use of our Services.

What information do we collect?

Information You Provide.

  • Registration and Profile Information. When you register for a Ferris account, we will ask for a unique username you’d like to go by, email address, and a password. You may also provide additional information such as a profile picture or gender. We want you, though, to be in control of your information, so we let you update or correct most of your Ferris account information by editing your account settings within Ferris.

  • Contacts. With your consent, we will collect information from your mobile address book contacts, including names, telephone numbers, email addresses, and social media handles, if available. This information may be used to enable you to manually send an invitation yourself to someone in your contact list so they can join Ferris or also to be more easily able to find friends on our Services that you already know. You can always revoke your consent to our ongoing ability to collect information from your device’s phonebook and photos by changing the settings on your device if your device offers that option, or by simply deleting our app from your device (though we hope you’ll never do that).

  • Information You Post. We collect information or other content that you may post using our Services (such as text, photos, and videos) or actions that you take using our Services (such as changing your profile picture or connecting to third-party apps). When you post things like photos or videos on our Services, we may receive additional related data (or metadata), such as the time, date, and place you took the photo or video. This information may be used to tailor the service the fit your personal interests and help you organize your content more easily (such as being able to search for a video of yours that’s from a specific date).

  • Other Services. We receive information when you choose to connect social media or other third party accounts and applications with your Ferris account, including a token to authenticate your identity between these accounts. This information may be used to help you easily upload a profile photo or quickly fill out profile information when registering a new account.

Information Others Share About You.

We may receive information about you from other users, such as when they connect their address book to our Services, invite you to use our Services, or share content with you from our Services.

Information We Receive From Your Use of Our Services.

  • Usage Information. We also collect certain information when you use our Services, including: (1) information about your interaction with the Services, including the actions you take on the Services and your interaction with other users and third party applications; and (2) device information, such as unique device identifiers, wireless service provider or mobile carrier, operating system information, IP address, browser type and language.

  • Location Information. We will collect location information if you provide it to us or based on, for example, your telephone’s GPS coordinates, unless you configure your operating system settings to prevent our collection of location information. Where available, location-based services may use GPS, Bluetooth, and your IP Address, along with crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower locations, and other technologies to determine your devices’ approximate location.

  • Mobile Device. Certain features of the Services require access to your device's media storage applications (e.g., to post a video to Ferris that’s on your mobile phone). Although you may decide whether or not to use these features, on iOS devices, you can grant or revoke your consent at any time and prevent us from continuing to access your video storage applications by changing the settings on your device.

  • Social Networking Sites. Some of our Services may enable you to post content to social networks (SNSs) (e.g., Facebook or Twitter). If you choose to do this, we will provide information to such SNSs in accordance with your elections. You acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for your use of those websites and that it is your responsibility to review the terms of use and privacy policy of the third party provider of such SNSs. We will not be responsible or liable for: (i) the availability or accuracy of such SNSs; (ii) the content, products or services on or availability of such SNSs; or (iii) your use of any such SNSs.

  • Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies. We may also collect certain information through the use of “cookies” and other technologies such as pixel tags and web beacons. Cookies are small files that your browser places on your computer. We may use session cookies, persistent cookies, and other tracking technologies to better understand how you interact with our Services, to monitor usage by our users and web traffic routing on our services, and to improve our Services. Most Internet browsers automatically accept cookies. You can instruct your browser, by editing its options, to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting cookies from the websites you visit. Note that some of our features may not work correctly without cookies. Pixel Tags are tiny graphic images with a unique identifier, similar in function to Cookies, which are used to track online movements of Web users. In contrast to Cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, Pixel Tags are embedded invisibly in Web pages. Pixel Tags also allow us to send e-mail messages in a format users can read, and they tell us whether e-mails have been opened to ensure that we are sending only messages that are of interest to our users. We may use this information to reduce or eliminate messages sent to a user. We do not tie the information gathered by Pixel Tags to our users’ Personal Data. In some of our email messages, we use a “click-through URL” linked to content on the Ferris website. When customers click one of these URLs, they pass through a separate web server before arriving at the destination page on our website. We track this click-through data to help us determine interest in particular topics and measure the effectiveness of our customer communications. If you prefer not to be tracked in this way, you should not click text or graphic links in the email messages. Ferris does not currently respond to do-not-track (DNT) signals that may be sent from your device. If we do so in the future, we will provide information about that practice in an updated version of this privacy policy..
